An ongoing project of mine; a mash-up between a quirky SNES RPG of the 90s, and the aesthetics of Team Fortress 2. A big technical challenge (many custom assets required), but a great learning experience in animating, modeling, and filmmaking.
The first videos were rendered inside of Garry’s Mod using a handful of custom made Lua scripts; I have since then switched to Source Filmmaker.
If you don’t know what EarthBound is, it’s a RPG released in 1994 on the SNES, in which you lead a party of kids in a quest to destroy an intergalactic alien entity overrun by its own thirst for power. While it was a success in Japan, it didn’t sell so well in the United States; however, thanks to the Internet, it eventually gained a large fanbase later on and became a cult classic.
